“Live stream” is now a common term for broadcasting events in real-time from anywhere globally, allowing anyone to witness them as they unfold. In these three-part video sculptures, I aim to merge two distinct “streams”: footage of a natural watercourse interwoven with elements of todays internet, like internet signs and emotes appearing to flow “with” the current down stream.
Emote interpretation change significantly across generations. Younger people understand these digital cues in ways older generations often miss, both in the meaning of the emote and regarding the nuances of their sequence. It’s striking how widely recognized these symbols have become, they even exceed familiarity with natural details. As someone interested in the evolution of language – from early symbolic representation to written form – I find this revival of visual communication captivating. Some how it feels like a return to our origins and we are back at square one again, but after all we are only human!
