2-channel video installation / mixed media / 2025
The term Technological nature was something I came across looking for “ai” statements on the internet for my first record entitled “ai” that was released in December 2024. Technological nature is a research by Peter H. Kahn Jr. The research presents an intriguing paradox; as Kahn suggests, "technological nature is not as good as real nature, but it’s better than no nature at all!" Such a statement challenges the way we perceive our relationship with the environment. We now rely heavily on computer-generated imagery to reconstruct nature, often without ever engaging with the real thing. In my installation, I seek to combine these two worlds.
I found myself transported back to the seventies—a time when homes adorned faux wood panels and nature-themed wallpaper created an illusion of the outdoors. This, I believe, was an early instance of technological nature: a nostalgic attempt to embed a sense of the natural world within our artificial environments.
In my installation, I blend sounds from researchers discussing this captivating theme with original music inspired by that nostalgic decade. The videos are shot through a simple digital camera and with a digital microscope,
all without using computer-generated imagery. This intended choice emphasize my belief in the value of authentic experience, even when filtered through technological lenses. By channeling the essence of the 70s, I invite viewers to reflect on the delicate balance between our synthetic environments and the natural world, resonating that delightful yet humorous sentiment: "Not as good as real nature, but better than no nature at all."
